Manchester - Attractions And Activities For Children

By Mark Walters

Manchester is a fantastic city with some amazing historical and modern architecture and some very interesting amenities and attractions. What can be difficult, though, when going on a short break in or around Manchester with your family, is finding suitable places to take children to keep them interested and entertained. In fact there are lots of attractions aimed directly at children and some of the best few have been listed below for your perusal.

Situated in the massive Trafford Center in Greater Manchester, the Legoland Discovery Center is a celebration of all that is great about the fantastic art of Lego construction. In actual fact, the Legoland Discovery Center goes much further than that, offering many forms of entertainment to keep your kids busy for hours. There is a cinema, a build and test center, an interactive rollercoaster, a Lego factory and also an adventure playground to boot.

The Museum of Science and Industry is a museum dedicated to the development of science, industry and technology, and is located in Castlefield in Greater Manchester. There are some fantastic exhibitions on display, including special exhibitions displaying all sorts of informative and educational topics such as computing, astronomy and even the customizing of motorcycles!

Sometimes, rather than deciding on taking your kids to places where they can learn or develop certain skills, you just want to get them to a place where they can wear themselves out by climbing, running and playing with their brothers, sisters or other children. All across Manchester there are many of these indoor play centers that cater for exactly this occasion. Some of the most popular are the Head Over Heels Play Center in Chorlton, the Wacky Warehouse in East Didsbury, and the Land of Play Indoor Play Center in Trafford Park.

Most kids love a day out karting and Greater Manchester has some of the finest indoor circuits in England. Two of the most popular tracks in the area are Daytona Manchester, situated in Trafford Park which caters for children as young as 5 years old; and also Karting2000 which is situated in Gorton, northwest Manchester. Karting2000 primarily caters for older age groups but there are karts for children as young as 9 years old available.

The Chill Factore is an indoor alpine ski village offering activities for all the family. With sledges, snow tubes, an ice luge, a 12 meter climbing wall, skiing and snowboarding equipment for hire and instructors to help you learn, Chill Factore is a fantastic day out for everyone.
