Top 3 San Diego Family Vacation Ideas - Animal Shows

By Paula Simms

I have compiled a list of the top 3 things to do on a family vacation to San Diego, California that involve animals! Probably the best thing about the city, aside from it's average year-round temperature of 70.5 degrees (21.4 degrees Celsius), is the abundance of family activities that can be found within the county boundaries. Even better, parents can also incorporate their vacation time within the larger family outing with a variety of adult adventure. So here is the list as I see it, but feel free to comment with your more suggestions!

The San Diego Zoo is one of the best representations of different animal species from around the world, housing almost 4000 different animals and spanning over 100 acres. Whatever your favorite animal is, the San Diego Zoo will surely have it swimming, sleeping, or swinging peacefully within the grounds. Visit the Giant Pandas, roaring big cats, swinging monkeys, or slimy snakes. Anything is possible at the San Diego Zoo!

Sea World San Diego - "Shamu! Shamu!" Join the crowd in calling out to the most beloved superstar of Seaworld, the killer whale "Shamu". Offering dazzlingly displays of jumping, twirling, and splashing, Seaworlds killer whale show is one of the most popular attractions in San Diego. And if that's not all, there are dozens of fantastic shows featuring flipping dolphins, goofy walruses, and silly penguins. Many visitors find themselves returning again and again to Seaworld for more family fun.

Wild Animal Park - Part of the San Diego Zoo, The San Diego Wild Animal Park is located in Escondido, CA just north of downtown San Diego. San Diego Wild Animal Park is a 1,800-acre wildlife preserve featuring 38 endangered species of mammals and 11 endangered species of birds amongst its collection of over 3,500 exotic animals. Animals roam the park freely as do in their native Asia and Africa. A tram ride allows guests to see animals roaming in their habitat and for an additional fee, you can get up close and personal with a customized photo safari.

Hopefully you've enjoyed my list on fun things to do when visiting San Diego for animal lovers. While there are many different things to do in San Diego, these are just some of my favorite. San Diego offers fantastic aquariums, bird sanctuaries, whale watching tours, and walking beach experiences that the whole family can enjoy. Whatever your family wants to do, San Diego has it all. If you have any more ideas please feel free to comment on this article. Every activity is well worth a day of family fun!
