Holidays for golfers in France

By Gilbert Shepworth

France is a fantastic place to go on holiday. There is so much to experience there in terms of culture, cuisine, weather and natural beauty. It is also a very popular place to play golf. The fact that the climate stays warm and sunny for most of the year makes it a perfect atmosphere to spend a whole day outside playing golf, and the fact that it is so near the UK makes it incredibly convenient too. And the fact that there is now a Euro tunnel connecting the two makes it even more convenient.

Because France has a lot to offer those who don't like golf, it makes for an excellent compromise for families. If there are only a few members who are interested in golf, then the rest of the family is not going to be short of things to do. Even if it is just enjoying the view while the other play golf. A short drive or train journey away will no doubt reveal many great things, including fine restaurants, art, culture and maybe a sandy beach too.

The resort towns of Touquet and Hardelot are some of the most popular, for they are host to beautiful and high quality golf courses. Also, these are pretty much on our doorstep now the Euro tunnel is here. A few hours drive inland, however, also has some spectacular resorts.

One that is particularly worthy of note is that of St Omer. This has a spectacular hotel as well as a championship quality 18 hole course. There is also a more comprehensive 9 hole, however, if you are not feeling up to the challenge. Paris is also home to some fantastic courses, such as Dolce Chantilly, Fontainebleau and Golf National.

Heading west will also lead to some great golfing resorts situated along the coast. Normandy, Brittany and west Loire are great for golfers due to their high quality courses. And because you are by the sea this means you can combine a golf and a beach holiday!
