What You Need To Get Emergency U S Passports

By Ben Pate

For most people traveling, they will be required to have a valid passport to prove their identity and citizenship when they enter the country they are visiting and when they are returning to their home country. If they lack this type of documentation, they may not reach their destination and could have trouble when returning home. Certain situations can arise when a person needs to travel to a foreign country quickly and they do not have the required documentation to travel. For these individuals, emergency U.S. passports may be needed before they can travel.

Unexpected Travel

There are times when a family member might be traveling overseas and either gets involved in a serious accident or becomes deathly ill. Other times, there might be a business emergency that arises that needs immediate attention. When these situations arise that demand a quick response that does not allow for someone to wait for the normal process of obtaining a passport to take place. Many countries offer a way for a person to obtain the necessary documentation to travel within twenty-four hours.

Issuance

There are steps that have to be followed when these documents are issued. Personal identification will be necessary to have as in all applications. There will be a fee structure that must be paid. In many instances, a person is required to appear at a processing location in person before emergency paperwork is processed.

Official Documents

A person should also be prepared to bring along certain material that is common for all applications. They must have a photograph that can be placed inside the passport. They also must have proper documentation proving who they are and where they were born, or have documents proving their citizenship.

Fees

The costs involved will vary depending on how quickly they need the document. There will be the normal processing fee charged in most cases. Then there will be additional fees associated with expediting the process. Also, there are extra costs associated with traveling to offices where they have to appear in person to have the procedure take place. There may be different fees if you need to renew a U.S. passport.

Agents

Appearing before a government official before the documents are issued is normally mandatory. They will want to verify exactly who you are and that an emergency situation is actually occurring. They will also want to be assured that a person is not trying to get around proper procedure for other reasons.

Plan Ahead

Most countries advise people to obtain whatever documents they need to travel to other countries before a situation arises that compels someone to obtain an emergency passport. Family emergencies happen frequently around the world. If a close family member is traveling abroad, then many countries advise that family members who are staying home obtain the documents necessary to respond to a potential situation overseas.
