Feel Great About Your Auckland Hotel Choice

By Christina Evans

In one city alone you cannot turn a corner without seeing the accommodation that is available to us. With so many choices it is understandable that a lot of us do not know where to start when it comes to choosing an Auckland hotel to stay at. We want to choose a place that we are going to feel comfortable in, and also a place that we can brag about and recommended to other people back home. The problem with this is that we do not take the time to have a decent look around and really the place that can offer us everything we have always wanted in a hotel. This could be because there is just so many choices that if one sounds good we tend to go with it and forget about everything else that could be out there; and a place that we will not end up regretting either.

When searching for an Auckland hotel we always have a price in the back of our minds, because it really is the most important aspect of choosing accommodation. So make sure that you look for a place that is at least within your price range, because there is no sense in looking for places that you cannot afford. This always happens to people because we all tend to get ahead of ourselves just a little and we look around before we even know what we are looking for. When this happens we always find a fantastic looking place that we fall in love with, and then realize it is way above our budget. It is because of this that every other place we look at with pale in comparison and we will always want the place we cannot have.

So first of all we must not get ahead of ourselves and fall in love with a place that we might not be able to have. Second of all we have to allow ourselves the right amount of time to know what we want and what we are looking for. Have the look at everything the hotel has to offer and not just the variations when it comes to the rooms. Have a look at the facilities that are available onsite as well so you can get a feel for what the place is all about. For instance, if there were just bars and a nightclub then you know what type of sleep you will be getting; or lack of. Perhaps you would like a bar but also a restaurant available for you, and maybe a gym or some form of entertainment.

When choosing somewhere to stay on holiday you have to know what the room is going to be like and what kind of condition it is in. Most websites have great pictures online so you can really see where you will be living and sleeping, however if you want more information then give them a ring or email them and find out everything that you need. There is no need in having questions that are not going to be answered.

To find the best Auckland hotel we should first know what we want and then start looking for it. If you are unsure of what you should be looking at, then ask the people around you about their experiences. Travelling can be a little daunting and we get so excited about it that we forget to take care of the most important aspects. Make sure you are prepared so you can have the best time possible.

Highlights of the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa

By Rob Atherton

While not as well known as the neighbouring Western Cape, it's contribution to South Africa's heritage is enormous. It was here that Nelson Mandela was born and in 2000, a museum was opened to coincide with the 10th anniversary from his release from prison. The museum is found at Qunu along the N2, south of Umtata.

The Eastern Cape is also rich in natural beauty too with a warm coastline attracting surfers, spectacular inland scenery of rolling farmlands and secret valleys not to mention the Wild Coast. It is considered to be one of the world's most luscious strips of coastal forest.

The province's most westerly coastline accommodates the tail end of the world famous Garden Route, making it a simple decision to carry on north-eastwards along the African coastline, towards the Eastern Cape.

The Eastern Cape is a superb game viewing place with three malaria-free national parks, the Addo Elephant, Mountain Zebra and the Tsitsikamma National Park. Shamwari, in between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown, was the initial private conservation initiative in the Eastern Cape. It has been a great success, both in terms of ecological integrity and as an awesome holiday location, giving an ultra luxurious gambling or wildlife experience.

Port Elizabeth is the biggest city in the Eastern Cape and among South Africa's best kept secrets. As well as being a fantastic base for day outings, PE (as it is known) has a broad range of seashores and some exceptional golf courses. Within the city limits are beautiful walks, several great mountain bike trails, good surfing and sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and fantastic diving.

You have almost certainly heard of the "Big Five" however the Eastern Cape is home to the "Big Seven". Along with the conventional "Big Five" (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and Rhino), you may also discover the Great White Shark and the Southern Right Whale.

Sun Peaks BC Is For Year Round Fun

By Janine Hester

Fun and adventure can be found any time of year in Sun Peaks BC. This new municipality is third largest ski resort in Canada. As the largest ski area in British Columbia's interior it is challenging the province's other great ski destinations. There are also any number of activities to enjoy during the summer months. Located northeast of Kamloops, better access is need to continue Sun Peak's growth in popularity. More guest accommodations and affordable employee housing are also necessary. Some major names are involved with this project so it should have success. The town is surrounded by mountains and is a fun location to come and enjoy the outdoors or simply relax and unwind.

Sun Peaks became Canada's first mountain resort municipality in June 2010. The designation will allow the community to have a greater say in it's own development. The year round population is under five hundred people. Controlled growth must happen if the area is to make it to the big time as a tourist destination.

Three mountains to ski means that there is a variety of terrain for any ability level. The vertical drop, at 2894 feet or 882 meters, ranks it with some of North America's best. A nine acre terrain park is available for snow boarders. With an annual snowfall average of about eighteen feet, or 5 and a half meters, good ski conditions are the norm.

In summer there is also plenty to do. There is a par 72 golf course surrounded by mountain views. Lift accessed mountain biking is available. In town there is the weekly Sun Peaks & Region Farmer's Market that brings together local foods, arts and crafts.

More affordable housing is needed for resort employees. Without the workers, the resort can't grow. Additional lodging for visitors is also necessary for this to become a destination resort.

Another area of concern is access. Travel from the east is hindered because there is no direct route. An access road would make getting from Banff and Lake Louise quicker. There is direct air access from Seattle.

Al Raine is the first mayor of Sun Peaks BC. He was a major part of the development of Whistler, now one of the world's great resorts. His wife, Olympic champion Nancy Greene Raine, is the director of skiing for the resort. She host free public ski tours most holidays and weekends. These two have made this area their home because of it's great skiing and bright future.
